What is a snapback?

A snapback is a cap with a flat brim, a structured high crown, and a plastic snap closure across the back. The flat brim and tall front panel give it the largest and squarest design area of any hat here, which is why bold graphic work lands on a snapback rather than a dad cap.

What defines the style

  • Flat brim — worn flat, not curved, by design.
  • High structured crown — stands tall off the forehead.
  • Plastic snap closure — adjusts in fixed increments.
  • Six panels — a flat squared front for large designs.
  • Largest design area — more usable surface than any other cap.

Construction and design placement

A structured high crown holds a large embroidered or patch design without the panel buckling, which is exactly what a soft unstructured cap cannot do.

  • Structured buckram front — holds shape under a large design.
  • Cotton twill or wool blend — wool blends hold a sharper crown.
  • Flat brim with a green or black underside. — undefined
  • Embroidery, patch, or applique — all three work on this crown.
  • Adjustable 21.5in to 24in — via the snap strip.

Care and wear

Hand wash and air dry on a form. Keep the brim flat in a bag rather than curling it, since a snapback brim is meant to stay flat. Snapbacks are the most requested cap style in youth and student ministry. 10% of every purchase is donated to a Christian ministry, mission, charity or non-profit. Snapback questions, answered

Snapback or dad cap?

Snapback for a flat brim, a tall structured crown, and a bold graphic. Dad cap for a soft low-profile hat that looks worn in from day one.

Should I curve the brim?

It is designed to stay flat. Curving it works but softens the whole look the style is built around.

Do snapbacks fit all head sizes?

They adjust from about 21.5 to 24 inches. They are less precise than a buckle strap but fit most adults.

Why is the underside of the brim green?

It is a carryover from mid-century baseball caps, where the green underside was meant to cut glare. It stayed as a style detail.

Can I machine wash a snapback?

No. The buckram front panel will warp. Hand wash and air dry on a form.

What design types work best?

Large flat embroidery, applique, and patches. Fine detailed line work is lost at the scale a snapback invites.
