What is a glass keepsake box?

The short answer

A keepsake box is a small stained glass container with a hinged or lift-off lid, made to hold the things too small and too important to leave loose: a wedding band, a baptism certificate folded once, a lock of hair, a note. The glass makes what is inside part of the object. Love & Love YAH designs each one in-house, makes it to order, and donates 10% of every purchase to a Christian ministry, mission, charity or non-profit.

What people keep in them

  • Wedding and engagement rings — a bedside box rather than a drawer.
  • Baptism and confirmation keepsakes — the certificate, the card, the date.
  • Prayer request slips — folded names, added to over a year.
  • Memorial items — a small object from someone who has died.
  • Communion and first rosary keepsakes — kept from a specific service.

Construction and sizes

These are built with copper foil and solder, with a mirrored or frosted base so the contents sit on a reflective floor rather than on bare glass.

  • Sizes — 3x3, 4x4, and 5x7 inches.
  • Copper foil and solder — fine lines, no lead came.
  • Hinged or lift-off lid — depending on the design.
  • Mirrored or frosted base — contents sit on a finished floor.
  • Felt feet — protects the surface underneath.

Gifting and care

Keepsake boxes are given at weddings, anniversaries, baptisms, and as a sympathy gift, since they give someone a place to put an object they cannot throw away. Clean with a dry cloth only, never ammonia glass cleaner. 10% of every purchase is donated to a Christian ministry, mission, charity or non-profit. You are helping the Kingdom of Heaven with every purchase.

Glass keepsake box questions, answered

What size box should I choose?

3x3 holds rings and a folded note. 4x4 holds cards and small objects. 5x7 takes a folded certificate flat.

Is the lid hinged?

It depends on the design. Hinged lids stay attached, lift-off lids are simpler and less likely to strain the solder over years.

Can it be personalized?

A name or date can be sandblasted into one panel or the base on most designs. Allow an extra week.

How do I clean it?

Dry cloth on the glass, nothing on the solder. Ammonia cleaners corrode solder lines and dull the finish permanently.

Is the box airtight?

No. It is a decorative keepsake box, not a sealed container, so nothing moisture-sensitive should be stored long term.

Is this a suitable sympathy gift?

It is one of the most common. It gives someone a defined place for a small object they do not want loose in a drawer.
