What is a glass cross ornament?

The short answer

A glass cross ornament is a cut or fused glass cross made to hang from a tree, a rear-view mirror, a window latch, or a bedpost. It is the piece most often given at a baptism or a confirmation, because it is small, it costs little, and it stays in a family longer than almost anything else at that price. Love & Love YAH designs each one in-house, makes it to order, and donates 10% of every purchase to a Christian ministry, mission, charity or non-profit.

Forms in this collection

  • Fused glass crosses — two or three layers melted together, with color running through.
  • Cut and foiled crosses — sheet glass with a soldered copper edge.
  • Beveled clear crosses — prisms that throw rainbows in direct light.
  • Iridescent crosses — a surface coating that shifts color with the angle.
  • Baptism crosses — a small cross with a date, boxed with a card.

Construction and hanging

Fused crosses are solid glass and heavier than they look. Cut and foiled crosses are lighter, with a soldered loop rather than a drilled hole, which is stronger over years of hanging.

  • Sizes — 2.5in, 3.5in, and 5in tall.
  • Fused, cut and foiled, or beveled — depending on the design.
  • Soldered or fused loop — integrated, never glued.
  • Ribbon or chain included — 12in, ready to hang.
  • Gift box — rigid box with tissue for storage and giving.

Gifting occasions

Beyond Christmas, glass crosses are given at baptisms, confirmations, first communions, and as a sympathy gift, where a dated cross becomes the keepsake from a hard year. Add a date to most designs at checkout. 10% of every purchase is donated to a Christian ministry, mission, charity or non-profit. You are helping the Kingdom of Heaven with every purchase.

Glass cross ornament questions, answered

What is fused glass?

Layers of colored glass melted together in a kiln so the color runs through the piece rather than sitting on the surface. It cannot chip off.

Can I hang one from my rear-view mirror?

Yes, the 2.5in size with the ribbon. Be aware that any hanging object in the windshield line is restricted in some states.

Can a date or name be added?

Yes on most designs, sandblasted into the glass. Allow three to five extra business days.

Is it fragile?

It is glass, but fused crosses are solid and thick. Normal tree and window hanging is what they are built for.

Do beveled crosses really make rainbows?

Yes, in direct sun. The bevel acts as a prism and throws color across the room in the morning or late afternoon.

Is this appropriate as a baptism gift?

It is one of the most common baptism and confirmation gifts we ship, especially with the date added and the card included.
